Sonae's second longplayer "I Started Wearing Black" received thoughtful and exciting press from all over the scene, "Is it a just coincidence, or is a new wave of female composers/musicians/DJ’s currently re-defining electronic music?" Ambientblog stated recently. Monika Enterprise replies with their next release for your consideration: "Wearing Black Remixes" is a selection of four Sonae originals remade by Lucrecia Dalt, Electric Indigo, Natalie TBA Beridze and London newcomer La Leif.
"Rust" remixed by Lucrecia Dalt is a playful reduction. Dalt fractures the original, takes a few elements from it and empowers them to tell their own story. A beautiful, joyful experiment. Lucrecia Dalt just released a new album "Anticlines" with Rvng Intl., she hosts a regular show for Red Bull Radio and is part of label collective Monika Werkstatt. The Columbian born artists lives in Berlin.
Electric Indigo's remix of "Majority Vote" sounds like an optimistic utopian answer to the disillusioned original. Strong wooden drums and the flowery play of mallets create a laid-back mood while deconstructed sound elements pass by. Electric Indigo is a DJ and producer living in Vienna and Berlin; her album "511593" was recently released on Imbalanced Music.
Natalie tba Beridze remixed "Soul Eater", a track named after on of Sonae's daughters favourite Mangas. Beridze accompanies extracts of the original with piano, synths and sounds reminiscent of Japanese anime movies as much as of the legendary Bladerunner score, a futuristic transformation. Natalie tba Beridze lives in Tbilisi, Georgia, and is currently working on a new album. She is a producer, composer, songwriter and part of label collective Monika Werkstatt.
London based La Leif takes "White Trash Rouge Noir" on an atmospheric yet groovy journey. Her warm and sexy remix seems just to follow the flow, a track you want to hear while getting ready for a colourful and endless club night. La Leif is producer and co-founder of Omnii Collective.
